“MANIFESTO: THE DIAGHILEV PROJECT [is] the vibrant cultural love-child of playwright Nathan Wright and director Nadia Foskolou. As Serge Diaghilev, Marc Sinoway easily embodies an irresistible combination of charisma, ennui and aesthetic sophistication -- and with Jake Corcoran playing his long-time partner, the two ably carry the show. Surrounding them in swirls of light & music & a splendid cast of 8 other performers playing 40 roles, director Foskolou has integrated rigorous evocative dance sequences with Brechtian Greek Chorus political statements & intimate conversations, many with archival roots, to fashion a theatrical pastiche which nods in style to Anna Deavere Smith and Charles Mee. The whole evening floats on the lush electro-techno musical creations of Dustin Gledhill, who steps up to play several celebrated composers Diaghilev encountered on the road to finding himself and the substance of his artistic success.…Stand-outs among the hard-working cast include Cory Alexander as Serge Lifar, Austin Marquez as Mavrin & Deon Releford-Lee morphing into Nijinsky's Faun. In one memorable dance image which bookends the show, the entire cast artfully coalesces into a Justin-Peck-worthy Venetian gondola which, as the show closes, serves as an elegant catafalque for Diaghilev's body.”
